Stockade Lake Cabin is an early l930's native log cabin perched on a hill among the pines, a stone's throw from Custer State Park with a breathtaking view of the lake from the huge picture window window in the living room. Bordered by US Forest Service and Custer State Park land,  this cabin is both private and yet close to everything a visitor wants to see and do, from hiking, boating, wildlife viewing, to visiting Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Mountain Carving, shops and restaurants.

Of course Mt Rushmore is the no.1 draw to the Black Hills and is surely on everyone's bucket list, and it is only about a 20 min. drive from Stockade Lake Cabin. Crazy Horse mountain carving is only about two miles north of Custer and has become one of the most-visited destinations in the entire Black Hills...well worth the stop. Stockade Lake Cabin is a short drive to Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, the Mammoth Site, The 1880 Train and numerous other points of interest.

The cabin is only three miles from the town of Custer, South Dakota, right in the heart of the Black Hills. The area around Custer is spectacular in its beauty, featuring wilderness areas closeby as well as many thousands of acres of National Forest Lands, and of course one of the largest state parks in the nation, Custer State Park.  This park abounds in wildlife which can be viewed from many scenic drives as well as hiking trails, mountain lakes with access for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming. Horseback riding is also avaiable in the park.

Just across the road from Stokade Lake cabin is a three-mile spur of the Mickelson Trail which connects the main north-to-south Mickelson Trail to Stockade Lake. This part is a paved section and joins the main trail in Custer.  You can walk, ride a bicycle or horse on the many sections of the Mickelson Rails-to-trails pathway following the old railway through the entire Black Hills. I have a book here at the cabin showing all the trailheads and sections to familiarize yourself with the trail.

In addition to being the perfect spot to make your home while exploring the entire Black Hills, Stockade Lake Cabin is your ideal hunting lodge during the prime Elk and Deer hunting seasons in the fall and also spring and fall turkey seasons.  It is also a perfect spot for a winter vacation, being near  groomed trails for cross-country skiing, and across road from the lake for ice fishing, skating, snowshoeing and quiet walks in the woods on a sunny day. And, Custer State Park features many activities throughout the entire year in which the public is invited to participate.

We now have an addition to Stockade Lake Cabin......we have built another cabin here on the same property.  We call it Hunter's Cabin, and it is a smaller cabin, but offers all the amenities you want when traveling.   It is a one-room concept cabin with a full kitchen and bathroom, bedroom area, living area, dining area, full length covered porch, open patio area with gas BBQ, access to large firepit, internet and excellent cell service.   Hunter's cabin does NOT have TV, but we know most guests dont come to watch TV, but are busy doing all the wonderful things available here in the Black Hills of South Dakota.   I will be adding some pictures of Hunter's cabin.      Phone is 308-43-5490
